Recycling catalytic converters plays a crucial role in the automotive industry by reclaiming valuable metals from vehicle exhaust systems. Moreover, these converters, which are essential for reducing harmful emissions, contain precious metals like platinum, palladium, and rhodium. Therefore, as they wear out, recycling them becomes vital for environmental sustainability and resource conservation.
The extraction of these rare metals is a vital step in the recycling process, as they are essential for manufacturing new converters and have numerous industrial applications. Moreover, efficient recycling provides economic benefits and reduces the need for metal mining, thereby minimizing environmental impact. To ensure safe metal recovery while adhering to strict environmental regulations, the process includes collecting, sorting, and carefully processing the converters.
Catalytic converter recycling actively contributes to automotive sustainability by reducing the ecological footprint of vehicles and supporting the circular economy within the automotive sector. Through its involvement in catalytic converter recycling, Recohub takes a leading role in ensuring eco-friendly practices and promoting resource conservation across the industry.
Our extensive experience within the metals recycling business and knowledge of the markets allows us to guide our clients through any aspect of automotive catalysts recycling.
Thanks to our established partnerships with key shipping lines, we are able to offer the most competitive rates while also supporting our clients with any logistics-related matters. In addition, we can assist you throughout the entire cargo journey, starting with collection, selecting the most efficient provider, and finally handling any customs-related procedures, to name a few.
Upon the receival of spent automotive catalytic converters, they are inspected and followed by the decanning process. Then, with the help of industrial mills, the ceramic honeycomb inside the catalytic converter is grinded into small fraction particles.
A whole lot of crushed ceramics is thoroughly mixed into a homogeneous substance. Then, each lot's representative sample is collected to accurately determine the precious metal content.
Determination of Platinum (Pt), Palladium (Pd) and Rhodium (Rh) content from the representative sample are established by the industry-standard XRF and ICP metal assaying methods.
After the assaying stage, when the exact PGM content is determined, we can offer flexible price hedging and settlement solutions based on our client's needs.
Addressing environmental challenges posed by discarded electronic devices makes recycling e-waste essential. As technology advances rapidly, the lifespan of electronic products like computers, smartphones, and televisions shortens, leading to a surge in e-waste. Thus, properly recycling these items is crucial to prevent toxic substances, such as lead, mercury, and cadmium, from polluting the environment.
E-waste recycling actively supports sustainable development by reducing landfill usage and lowering greenhouse gas emissions linked to the production and disposal of electronic goods. By opting for e-waste recycling, businesses and consumers take part in an environmentally responsible practice that ensures a greener future. Furthermore, this category is essential for maintaining ecological balance and promoting a circular economy within the tech industry.
Using in-house built printed circuit boards (PCBs) catalogue the PCBs are visually inspected and sorted into high- and low-grade categories.
Based on the categories, PCBs undergo the initial manual removal of batteries, capacitors and other parts that are unsuitable for further processing.
Material is then shredded and crushed into a smaller fraction to obtain a representative sample used to determine metal composition.
The sample is analysed in the lab using ICP method, and the exact metal composition is determined. Based on these findings, the final settlement takes place accordingly.
Focusing on the recovery and reuse of materials from spent nickel–metal hydride (NiMH) batteries, NiMH battery recycling plays an essential role in managing electronic and automotive waste. These batteries are widely used in hybrid vehicles, power tools, and various electronic devices. Their recycling is crucial for conserving valuable metals like nickel and rare earth elements, while reducing the environmental footprint associated with raw material extraction.
Recycling NiMH batteries conserves natural resources, reduces the demand for mining, and minimizes environmental pollution. By returning valuable metals to the production cycle, this process supports the principles of a circular economy. Furthermore, proper treatment of alkaline electrolytes and safe handling of hazardous materials significantly reduce risks to soil and water. Although NiMH batteries may offer lower market recovery value compared to lithium-ion types, their recycling contributes to lowering greenhouse gas emissions and promotes the development of greener, more sustainable energy storage solutions.
Collection and transportation of spent batteries following all legislative acts of respective countries. Ensuring special measures against short circuits and electrolyte leakage, using special transport containers, warning signs, and packaging.
Presorting collected spent batteries by type, modules, and chemical characteristics and applying specialized recycling technologies to define material flows for further treatment.
To ensure a safe working environment in further processing, the spent batteries are fully discharged, followed by the dismantling process, where the sub-products made from various metals, plastics, and electronic components are manually separated.
Shredding spent batteries into small fractions and, with the help of specialized machinery, sorting shredded material into defined categories of black mass (where applicable), plastic, steel casings, and metal foils. All is done to avoid the release of harmful emissions into the environment.
• Black mass (concentration of Nickel, Cobalt, Manganese and rare earth
elements such as lanthanum and cerium)
• Steel casings
• Metal foils from Cu and Al
• Plastics
Participating in lead-acid battery recycling is a crucial environmental practice that tackles their extensive use in vehicles and power systems. First, we collect and dismantle the batteries to safely recover lead, sulfuric acid, and plastic. Next, manufacturers smelt and reuse the recovered lead, significantly cutting down the need for new lead mining. Furthermore, they either neutralize the sulfuric acid or repurpose it for manufacturing, while the plastic components are recycled into new products.
This recycling is vital for preventing environmental contamination and conserving non-renewable resources. It helps avert soil and water pollution by ensuring that hazardous materials like lead and acid are properly managed. Lead-acid battery recycling also contributes to sustainable resource management and supports global environmental protection efforts. Participating in lead-acid battery recycling demonstrates a commitment to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship. It enables businesses and individuals to play a significant role in reducing ecological impact and promoting responsible resource utilization.
Non-ferrous material is accepted in the forms it actually arrives in, not only as clean sorted metal: aluminium wheels, wire and extrusions, copper wire and heavy copper, insulated wire, electric motors, brass, bronze, stainless steel, nickel alloys, zinc and mixed alloy lots. Insulated wire, motors and alloy mixes are graded after sorting and stripping, so the price follows recovered metal content rather than gross weight.
Recycling non-ferrous metals is energy-efficient compared to extracting new materials and plays a vital role in reducing the environmental impact of metal production. These metals can be recycled multiple times without losing quality, making them valuable for sustainable practices. This process significantly cuts down on greenhouse gas emissions and conserves natural resources. By engaging in non-ferrous metals recycling, industries and individuals help reduce waste and pollution, contributing to a circular economy. This practice is crucial for achieving sustainable development and efficient resource management.
Recohub actively purchases non-ferrous metals from manufacturers, auto wreckers, demolition firms, metal dealers, and other clients who generate scrap metal. Moreover, our goal is to ensure that every client receives the same high level of customer service and efficiency throughout the entire process. By focusing on customer satisfaction, we aim to build lasting relationships while maintaining operational excellence.
When material arrives at our facility, we analyze and sort it immediately. Next, different scrap metals and non-recyclable materials are separated. Using specialized machinery, we compress the material to save space for further distribution.
We ship processed and sorted scrap metals to clients across the globe. Depending on the client’s location, we deliver the materials using either trucks or containers, ensuring timely and efficient transportation.
