Rhodium Price Today
Rhodium is a rare platinum group metal used mainly in catalytic converters. Below is today's rhodium price per ounce, per gram and per kilogram, with a daily price chart and recent price history. Rhodium trades in a small market, so its reference price changes less often than platinum or palladium.
Rhodium Price per Gram, Ounce and Kilogram
Metal reference prices are not catalytic converter purchase offers. The value of a converter depends on the amount of each metal it contains, which is confirmed by sampling and analysis.

Rhodium is recovered from used catalytic converters like these.

Market drivers
What Moves the Rhodium Price
The main factors behind changes in the rhodium price, and why the market reacts to them.
01
By-product supply
Most rhodium is mined in South Africa, largely as a by-product of platinum mining, so supply cannot quickly respond to higher prices.
02
Emission rules
The main use is in catalytic converters, where rhodium reduces nitrogen oxides. Emission rules and vehicle production therefore drive most of the demand.
03
Small market
The market is very small, so moderate changes in supply or demand can move the price sharply.
04
Recycling
Recycling of used catalytic converters is an important source of rhodium supply.

Catalytic converters
Rhodium in Catalytic Converters
Rhodium is the part of a three-way catalytic converter that reduces nitrogen oxides (NOx) to nitrogen. Converters contain much less rhodium than platinum or palladium, but because of its high price it can account for a significant share of the metal value.
Rhodium content differs between vehicle models and emission standards, so a converter's value is determined from its measured metal content, not from the rhodium price alone.

Methodology
How These Prices Are Calculated
Source
Prices come from an independent third-party market data provider. All values are calculated from US dollar prices and exchange rates published in the same update.
Updates
We check for new prices every hour. “Updated” shows the time of our last successful update in UTC. If updates fail for more than three hours, prices are marked as delayed.
Change
The change compares the latest price with the previous daily value (previous close) in the selected currency, using the exchange rate of each day.
Units
One troy ounce equals 31.1034768 grams and one kilogram equals 1,000 grams. Precious metals are quoted in troy ounces, which are heavier than ordinary ounces (28.35 grams).
Rhodium quotes
Rhodium is shown per troy ounce (31.1034768 grams), the standard unit for precious metal prices, so it can be compared directly with platinum and palladium.
History
Charts and tables use one value per day. Days without data are left blank and are never estimated.
Indicative prices
Prices are for information only. Dealer, refiner and recycler prices include premiums, fees and processing terms, so they will differ.

Converter material is sampled and analysed to measure its rhodium, platinum and palladium content.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much is rhodium per gram today?
The current rhodium price per gram is shown at the top of this page and in the price table. Use the unit switch to change between troy ounce, gram and kilogram, and the currency selector to see the price in euros, pounds or UAE dirhams.
How much is rhodium per ounce?
The current rhodium price per troy ounce is shown at the top of this page, together with the price per gram and per kilogram. Like other precious metals, rhodium is quoted per troy ounce (31.1034768 grams).
Why is rhodium so expensive?
Rhodium is one of the rarest precious metals and is produced mainly as a by-product of platinum mining. Supply cannot easily grow when prices rise, while catalytic converters need it to meet emission rules, which has kept its price well above platinum and palladium in recent years.
Why does the rhodium price change less often?
Rhodium is not traded on a large exchange like gold. Reference prices are published by refiners and dealers and often stay the same for several days, so the price on this page can be unchanged between updates.
Does the rhodium price show what a catalytic converter is worth?
No. A converter's value depends on how much platinum, palladium and rhodium it actually contains, measured by sampling and analysis, and on processing and refining terms. Contact us for an individual assessment.
